Selected costume renderings from The Insect Play - Theoretical Design 2014

I took a less literal approach for my design of The Insect Play. I chose to frame the entire play through the eyes of a dying World War One veteran, who had seen his world (and those around him) destroyed once, and was watching the world gear up for another great war. I chose to use traumatic research images of WWI scars and plastic surgery as a basis for dehumanizing characters, and taking on some insect like aspects.

Select costume renderings from Hamlet- Theoretical Design 2014

The jumping off point for this class assignment was to create a design for Hamlet using the artist H.R. Giger as our primary inspiration. I created a design that used qualities of Gigers art (repetition, bio-mechanical features, exoskeleton qualities, and almost bondage like clothing) and merged those qualities with some more modern styles (the lower class characters) and Romanesque inspired clothing (for the royal ruling class).
